Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bryan Acheampong, has thrown a subtle jab at fellow aspirants, questioning their ability to lead if they cannot control the conduct of their own supporters.

Speaking during a media engagement, the Abetifi MP and former Minister for Food and Agriculture said his team is running an issue-based campaign devoid of propaganda and personal attacks.

“We encourage ourselves to stay away from propaganda against our opponents. In as much as some propaganda is required to win the polls, we are staying away from that,” he said.

Mr. Acheampong stressed that his campaign is focused on unity and respect, adding that anyone who supports him must refrain from attacking other aspirants.

“We don’t intend to harm anybody with our campaign. If you support me, you cannot speak against my opponent,” he stated.

He however took a swipe at some aspirants whose supporters have been involved in personal attacks and smear campaigns, saying leadership must begin with self-control and discipline.

“All the people speaking against other people — we know them and who they support. And if you cannot control your own people, how can you lead?” he quizzed.

His remarks come as the NPP’s flagbearer race intensifies, with calls from party elders for a clean, respectful campaign free from internal divisions and personal rivalries.
