The senior national women’s soccer team, the Black Queens, will be contending for National Team of the Year at the CAF Awards 2025.
This follows the Bronze-winning performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco.
The nominations were released by the continent’s football-governing body on Friday, October 17.
Also nominated for National Team of the Year are record African champions Super Falcons of Nigeria and WAFCON 2024 losing finalists Atlas Lionesses of Morocco.
Former African champions Banyana Banyana are also among the nominated national teams.
Tanzania and Mali, who played alongside Ghana and South Africa at this year’s WAFCON, have also been nominated for the award.
The U-17 sides of Nigeria, Zambia and LA Cote d’Ivoire have also been nominated.
Meanwhile, Black Queens’ captain and defender Portia Boakye has also been nominated for the Player of the Year.
She will face competition from nine others including reigning queen Barbra Banda for the award.
The nominees list will be shortlisted ahead of the awards.
Goalkeeper Cynthia Fiindib Konlan and Coach Kim Lars Björkegren have also been nominated Goalkeeper of the Year and National Coach of the Year respectively.
Black Queens midfielder Stella Nyamekye has also gained nomination for the Young Player of the Year.
