Leaders, including the Prime Minister of Senegal and UNICEF officials, have reaffirmed their support for the Dakar Declaration and committed to making it a binding roadmap at the 2025 Regional Girls’ Summit in Dakar.

They have emphasised the need for measurable progress and solid political will to ensure the rights of adolescent girls are protected.

The summit was climaxed with the adoption of the “Dakar Declaration and Programme of Action for Girls in West and Central Africa,” a comprehensive roadmap that outlines six priority areas for action.

In a prevailing display of youth leadership, adolescent girls from across West and Central Africa gathered in Dakar, Senegal, for the inaugural Regional Girls’ Summit.

Organized by UNICEF and the Government of Senegal, this historic event marked a crucial turning point in the region’s journey towards empowering girls and securing their rights.

The summit also marked a significant shift in the region’s approach to girls’ empowerment.
