The military police have arrested a soldier identified as Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Mensah Williams of the Ghana Air Force, for allegedly assaulting a young woman and a pharmacist.

The incident, according to sources, occurred at Burma Camp in Accra earlier this week, when the soldier, reportedly attached to the Office of the Chief of Staff, physically attacked the victims inside a pharmacy located within the camp.

A CCTV footage of the incident has since gone viral on social media, depicting a tall, dark-complexioned man angrily confronting the pharmacist before slapping him and then turning on a female customer.

The footage further shows the soldier delivering several blows to the woman’s head after she attempted to record the altercation on her phone.

He then confronted the pharmacist behind his counter and delivered several blows to his abdomen, while the pharmacist was trying to make a phone call in the process.

Eyewitnesses who helped to restrain the lady who attempted a reprisal attack on the officer outside of the pharmacy described the assault as unprovoked, leaving the victims visibly shaken.

WO1 Williams has since been handed over to the Cantonments Police for further investigations and possible prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces has yet to issue an official statement on the incident. However, military sources indicate that disciplinary proceedings are likely to be initiated against the soldier in line with internal regulations should he be found guilty of misconduct.

The incident has sparked widespread concern within the military community, with calls for swift and firm disciplinary action to serve as a deterrent and to uphold the image and professionalism of the Ghana Armed Forces.
