Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu has said the removal of the Red Notice issued by the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) against former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta does not change the substance of the case.

According to him, although INTERPOL has taken the alert off its website, the process can be revived at any point.

He stressed that the recent development is not the end of efforts to bring the former minister back to face justice.

Mr. Kpebu argued that the earlier Red alert placed on Mr. Ofori-Atta was insufficient, adding that more coordinated legal steps were required.

“When you fall, you rise again, we have to attempt it again,” he said, noting that the Attorney-General is currently working on the extradition processes.

Mr. Kpebu emphasised that extradition involves determining Mr. Ofori-Atta’s global location, after which the Attorney-General will notify relevant countries that he is wanted and request cooperation for his return.

“It may seem Ken Ofori-Atta has won and is free now, but with time, we will get him. We have lost a lot of time trying to apprehend him,” he said on Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa, Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

Reiterating his long-held view on the performance of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), the lawyer maintained that the current Special Prosecutor should be replaced.

He noted that if a new Special Prosecutor assumes office, priority must be placed on freezing Mr. Ofori-Atta’s assets.

According to him, Ofori-Atta’s assets associated with Databank, Enterprise Insurance, as well as the former minister’s homes in Ghana, should be frozen immediately.

“If we delay, by the time he is arrested, he may have sold his assets, and there will be nothing left to recover to compensate for the losses he has caused,” he cautioned.

He argued that securing those assets is critical for national development.

“We need the properties, that is what counts. We need to build hospitals and create jobs for the unemployed youth, and to do that, we need the money,” he said.

Mr. Kpebu questioned what concrete steps have been taken to freeze the former minister’s assets based on the current situation.

“What has been done to freeze his assets? Nothing! Ofori-Atta is not returning to the country any time soon.”
