Delta Airlines is back in Ghana through the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), after 13-years of folding its operations.
It has resumed its seasonal route from Accra to Atlanta in this December.
The return of this Airline is part of more initiative that are expected to make the 2025 December Christmas in Ghana look lively, with the season filled with events, and cultural celebrations, since it will afford those from the diaspora to commute or fly easily to Ghana.
This is also expected to boost tourism, create business opportunities, and strengthen ties between Ghana and its diaspora.
The daily seasonal service of Delta Air Line non-stop Accra-Atlanta Services started on Monday, December 1, 2025, and will operate through late March 2026, using the Airbus A330-900neo, equipped with Delta One Suites, Premium Select, Comfort Plus and Main Cabin seating. With this addition, Delta now serves Accra from two U.S. gateways, its year-round daily New York–JFK route and the new winter service from Atlanta.
Speaking during the launch of their return at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Terminal 3, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the GTA, Maame Efua Houadjeto, said the festive season is the ideal time to highlight Ghana’s culture and events.

She said “on behalf of the Ghana Tourism Authority, we’ve been dedicated to promoting Ghana abroad. With major events like December in GH, Detty December, the upcoming Highlife Festival celebrating 100 years of Highlife, the Gospel Festival, Taste of Ghana, the Diaspora Summit, and the vibrant masqueraders often seen in Takoradi, we have plenty to offer this December that’s why we invite the world to visit Ghana to experience our warmth, our destinations, our people, our food, our clothing, our style, and our culture. And we say Ayekoo to Delta Airlines”.
The CEO of GTA referred to the event “a proud day for the nation”.
“Today is a proud moment for all of us. We thank Delta for this renewed commitment to Ghana and for affirming, once again, that Ghana is a central hub on the world map”.
“At GTA, we see this flight as the perfect doorway into an unforgettable December season that will showcase the heartbeat of our nation — our culture, music, food, creativity and spirit. We celebrate Delta on this exciting journey. It’s been here before, and it will continue. It’s not going to stop anytime soon”, Maame Efua Houadjeto added.
The CEO added that the direct flight makes travel easier and improves the travel experience.
“This direct flight will make travel much simpler for visitors from Atlanta and nearby cities. Previously, passengers had to transit through New York, which lengthened and complicated the trip. Now, this direct flight has eased the process for our visitors and us. Whenever we promote Ghana abroad, our first stop is Atlanta, so we’re always there, and it feels like the cities around Atlanta are just as connected to us. Honestly, my family, friends, visitors, and especially the diaspora, are thrilled to have a direct flight from Atlanta to Accra. We’re incredibly grateful”, she added.
About the discontinuation of flights after 13 years, Madam Houadjeto explained that previous services were not fully booked, but the new seasonal route offers a more convenient and direct travel experience.
She said she was particularly excited because the Accra–Atlanta route is crucial for tourism and business, disclosing that GTA has also worked closely with security, airport, and immigration officials to ensure every visitor, whether new or returning, feels safe, welcomed, and respected.
