Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has warned that the laws of Ghana will deal rigorously with foreigners who want to use all means possible to acquire a Ghanaian passport.
He emphasized that security measures have been tightened to deal with foreigners trying to acquire Ghanaian passport
“Ghanaians are concerned that we need to improve security and make sure that foreigners do not acquire our passport and undermine the gains that we have made. I can assure all Ghanaians that that we have tightened security by investing in technology and I can assure you that foreigners are going to have a hell of time trying to acquire Ghanaian passport ”
“We have put in place mechanisms to promptly apprehend them when they try,” he assured.
Speaking at the commission of a Passport Application Centre in the Savannah Region on December 31, he said more security measures have been put in place especially at the borders to check the foreigners who try to infiltrate into Damongo to acquire passports.

“We will mount the needed checks” he emphasized.

Savannah Regional Minister, Salisu Bi-Awuribe, praised the establishment of the centre, noting that it would significantly reduce travel time and cost for residents seeking passport services.
“Hon Minister, as part of our drive to make sure the necessary infrastructure is made available, the Regional Coordinating Council has made available two acres of land for the construction of a main passport office,” he announced.

As part of the commissioning ceremony, seven applicants received their passports directly from the Minister and his delegation.
