One of the 9th Parliament’s four Independent Members, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, has credited philanthropy for his electoral success in Asante Akyem North.

In a Wednesday, January 7, 2026 interview on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, Frimpong shared how his good deeds prior to joining mainstream politics, paved the way for his parliamentary victory.

He says the things he did for the constituents years before going into politics is what greased the grounds for him to win a seat in a highly politically exposed polity like Asante Akyem North.

In the exclusive interview, the lawmaker listed some of the things he did for the constituents, influencing the chiefs in the area to convince him to represent them in Parliament.

“I was actually talked into it. The chiefs told me to contest that looking at what I’ve been doing, it is good that I contest. So somewhere mid 2022, I took the decision to contest so the notion that I lost an NPP primary to contest is not true,” he explained in Twi.

The MP, whose campaign manager is a chief, says when he finally bought into the chiefs’ advice to contest as the legislator, he focused mainly on the things that affect the daily lives of the masses, which ate into the philanthropy he had been doing for the past years.

“I touched on education, healthcare, I did human improvement, supporting people with disabilities; it’s got to do with philanthropy,” he revealed.

He listed projects like building a 3-unit classroom block at Saviour M.A. in Agogo, a 20-seater toilet for Wiawso, a market, and notably, a mosque with a clinic and maternity ward – built by a Christian. “This was before I became an MP,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ohene Frimpong says he has now attached an NGO into his philanthropy with the prime focus on education to better the future of the youth in his constituency.

“I’ve now incorporated an NGO, Ohene Educational Foundation, just to help improve education.  I’ve given almost 200 scholarships in my first year, through government support, MTN, personal funding, and GNPC,” he said.
