Over 211,000 delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are voting to elect their flagbearer for the December 7, 2028 presidential election.

Among the candidates to be elected is Dr Bryan Acheampong.

He is contesting the position with four others, namely; Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

Below is the profile of Dr Bryan Acheampong:

Dr. Bryan Acheampong is an entrepreneur, politician and philanthropist.

He is currently the Member of Parliament for the Abetifi Constituency in the Eastern Region. With a career spanning politics, national security and entrepreneurship, and his contributions in driving social impact, he has earned a reputation for discipline, delivery, and visionary leadership.

He has held key ministerial positions, including Minister for Food and Agriculture, Minister of State at the Ministry of the Interior, and Minister of State at the Ministry of National Security.

In Parliament, Dr. Acheampong is currently the ranking member for the Security and Intelligence Committee, a member of the Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs as well as the Privileges and Immunities Committees.

He has previously served as Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, member of the Defence and Interior, Appointments, Selection, and Trade and

Industry Committees. His political journey began as a grassroots activist, rising to become the Chief of Staff to the late Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, former Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He then moved on to elected office, becoming a fourth-term member of parliament.

In the process, he was appointed into different ministerial roles. As Minister for Food and Agriculture, he led the rollout of Planting for Food and

Jobs Phase II, a flagship government initiative focused on the modernization of Ghana’s agriculture and agribusiness sectors. He also championed the development of the Ghana Agriculture and Agribusiness Platform (GhAAP), a technology-driven platform designed to promote sustainable farming practices and improve productivity.

At the National Security Ministry, he spearheaded the Alpha Project that installed security cameras across the country to aid crime detection and law enforcement.

In the private sector, Dr. Acheampong is the founder of several thriving enterprises. He established Rock City Hotel, the largest hotel in Africa and one of the most ambitious hospitality chains on the Continent. He founded INTU-IT, a software development and data mining company focused on financial management systems; Republic Media, a media and communications company; and Emery Investments, with interests spanning real estate and venture capital.

Bryan, as he’s affectionately called, holds a PhD in Information Systems from the University of Ghana Business School, where his research focused on mutual understanding and interoperability in technology projects. He is also a doctoral candidate in Security and Intelligence from the University of Buckingham, UK.

His academic background includes a Master of Professional Studies in Applied Intelligence from Georgetown University, an MBA from Johnson and Wales University, both in the USA, a Master of Arts in Security and Intelligence from the University of Leicester, an LLM in Professional Legal Practice from the University of Law, both in the UK and a Bachelor of Business Management – Johnson and Wales University, USA. Dr. Acheampong is a member of the Association of Information Systems (AIS), and he holds certifications from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ).

Dr. Acheampong has over ten peer reviewed publications.
