The Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi has clarified that the aircraft that crashed in Tema Community 17 on March 16, does not belong to the Ghana Armed Forces.

This is contained in a post he made on social media.

“We have received reports of a fatal crash involving a privately owned microlight aircraft at Tema Community 1 this afternoon. We wish to clarify that the aircraft is not owned by the Ghana Armed Forces,” he wrote.

The Deputy Minister used the post to commiserate with the families of the victims.

“We pray for the souls of the departed and extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” Mr Genfi stated.

Earlier, reports reaching 3news had it that a Skyarrow micro light aircraft has crashed in Tema, Community 1, site 17.

Two occupants are feared dead.

Eyewitnesses say the incident occurred at about 3:30pm.

Ghana Fire Service Personnel are said to be on the ground to assess the situation and offer the necessary assistance.

“Two bodies have been received,” a GNFS official said.

The reports further indicate that the accident occurred on a school compound.

Meanwhile, all teachers and pupils have been evacuated from the scene.

The scene of the incident has also been cordoned off to prevent interference.

Men from Aircraft Incidents and Accident investigation Bureau are said to be moving to the site.
