The Ghana Meteorological Agency has issued an impact-based weather alert, warning of moderate rainstorms and possible thunderstorms across several parts of the country.

According to the agency’s latest update issued on April 2, 2026, the weather system, currently located offshore between Benin and Togo, is generating rain-bearing clouds moving into southeastern Ghana.

The affected areas include parts of the Volta, Eastern and Greater Accra regions, where localized thunderstorms and varying intensities of rainfall are expected.

GMet further indicated that the rainstorm is likely to extend later into the Central and Ashanti regions, increasing the scope of impact as the system progresses inland.

Key areas expected to experience rainfall from the afternoon into the evening include Accra, Tema, Kasoa, Koforidua, Nkawkaw, Aburi, and Ho, as well as surrounding communities.

Subsequently, the storm system is projected to affect areas such as Assin Fosu, Tarkwa, Kumasi, Obuasi, and Twifo Praso, before extending to coastal towns including Winneba, Cape Coast, Saltpond, and Axim later in the day.

The agency has classified the situation as requiring public attention, urging residents in high-risk zones to “take action” and remain prepared.

GMet also cautioned that low-lying areas are particularly susceptible to flooding, while strong winds are expected to accompany the rains, posing additional risks.

The public is advised to stay alert, avoid flood-prone areas, and follow safety guidelines as the weather conditions evolve.
