The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has announced that the planned increase in the price of sachet water scheduled for today, Monday, April 6, 2026, has been suspended following the government’s intervention.

A statement shared on the Ministry’s Facebook page on Monday commended the Ghana Plastic Manufacturers Association (GPMA) and the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP) for their cooperation in halting the price adjustment.

“This decision reflects our commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring market stability,” the Ministry said.

It further assured that the price of sachet water was not going to rise today as announced, urging the public to continue patronising the commodity at the current price.

The Ministry, as part of measures to address the challenge, has scheduled an urgent meeting with the leadership of the concerned associations for Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

The sachet water producers have in recent months cited rising costs of raw materials, including plastic resins, fuel, and water treatment chemicals as the reason for the intended increment.

They cited the rising cost of the raw material used to produce the plastic due to the war between Israel, the US and Iran.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to working with the associations across all sectors to resolve disputes swiftly and maintain market stability.

“The Ministry remains steadfast in working with all trade associations to resolve issues swiftly and maintain stability in the market,” the statement added.
