The transition team overseeing the handing over of the Damang Mine, led by Rammy Oboro, has formally informed Odeneho Akrofa Krukoko III, Paramount Chief of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, that Saturday, April 18, 2026, is the day Goldfields officially hands over the mine to the government of Ghana.
The palace visit on April 17 was brief, businesslike, and loaded with significance.
“Nana, we are not here to negotiate dates. We are here to inform the stool. April 18, the handover happens. Period,” Oboro stated plainly before the assembled elders.

Odeneho Akrofa Krukoko III listened silently, then spoke with the weight of generations behind his voice:
“Saturday is noted. But a handover is not a harvest. What follows is what matters. Who takes over after government? What do they bring to my people? We want a competent operator one who can mine the Damang Mines and help the catchment communities get the needed development and employment for our youth,” Nana stated.

Oboro assured the chief that the successful bidder will be fully committed to community development.
For years, mining companies have moved in and out of Wassa Fiase – signing papers in Accra and informing the palace only after bulldozers had arrived.
The government will hold the asset temporarily before transferring it to the winning bidder.
