The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a comprehensive intervention programme to address ongoing power supply challenges in Kumasi and improve system reliability.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, April 20, 2026, Acting Managing Director, Ing. Kwame Kpekpena, outlined a mix of short, medium, and long-term measures aimed at strengthening the power distribution network in the Ashanti region.

‎In the immediate term, ECG will install 300 distribution transformers to ease load pressure and improve voltage stability across affected areas. This will be complemented by an aggressive preventive maintenance programme targeting existing system defects responsible for intermittent outages and fluctuations.

‎For the medium term, the company has earmarked an investment of GH¢1.11 billion for critical network reinforcement projects designed to enhance capacity and resilience.

‎Looking ahead, ECG also confirmed plans for the development of a third Bulk Supply Point (BSP) to address structural constraints in Kumasi’s power infrastructure and support the city’s growing electricity demand.

‎The intervention programme forms part of ECG’s broader strategy to deliver reliable and stable power to one of Ghana’s fastest-growing economic hubs.
