The Black Princesses shrugged off a first-half scare to secure a 2-1 win over their Ugandan counterparts in the first leg of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers on Sunday.
The visitors drew first blood at the Accra Sports Stadium a few minutes to the break when goalkeeper Belinda Maku failed to save a shot just inside the penalty area from entering her net.
Down 1-0 at the break, the Princesses fought hard to get the equaliser in the second half.
Substitute Priscilla Mensah connected to a free kick with a glancing header to level the score.
With time running out for Charles Sampson’s girls, Latifa Abesik shot Ghana to the lead five minutes from time to give her side the advantage going into next week’s second leg.
