The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has assured Ghanaians that the 100 new buses procured by the government will soon be deployed to ease transportation challenges across the country, especially during rush hours.

According to the Minister, the delay in operationalizing the buses is due to ongoing processes, including driver training, vehicle registration, and servicing to ensure the fleet is fully prepared for public use.

Mr. Nikpe disclosed this to journalists after appearing before the Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 where he addressed concerns relating to the transport sector and the government’s plans to improve public transportation services.

“If you have a number of buses up to 100 and you bring them into the system, they have to be registered, they have to go through all the system, you have to train drivers and you have to now deploy the drivers and do kind of proper servicing on all the buses to be able to serve the people.

He expressed optimism that the process was nearing completion, adding that drivers are currently undergoing training and are expected to complete within days.

“I want to make an appeal that we are almost at the end of rolling those buses out. The drivers are under currently training and should pass out soon either this week or early next week. We are certain that when all is finished, those buses will be released into the system,” he stated.

Mr. Nikpe reassured the public that the buses will soon be operational, stating that Ghanaians would see them in action as soon as all procedures were completed.
