The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has strongly condemned the practice of influential individuals using their positions to shield alleged offenders from arrest and prosecution.

Speaking at the United Cadres Front (UCF) Day celebration held in Kumasi, on Friday, June 19, 2026, Asiedu Nketia described the phenomenon popularly known as “orders from above” as a major obstacle to justice, accountability, and national development.

According to him, Ghana cannot achieve meaningful progress if individuals who engage in wrongdoing are protected by powerful figures.

He emphasized that the rule of law must prevail at all times and urged state institutions to carry out their duties without fear or political interference.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia also expressed concern over criticisms from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding the delayed completion of the Afari Military Hospital and the Sawua Hospital projects in the Ashanti Region.

He maintained that the projects were initiated under an NDC administration and questioned why the NPP was unable to complete them despite governing the country for eight years.

According to him, the opposition has no moral justification to criticize the current government over projects they failed to complete while in office.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chairman of the United Cadres Front, Kofi Topeng, called on the NDC leadership to prioritize and empower party cadres.

He argued that cadres play a critical role in safeguarding the party’s principles and supporting government policies aimed at accelerating national development.

The UCF Day celebration brought together party faithful, cadres, and supporters from across the Ashanti Region to reflect on the contributions of cadres to the growth and development of the NDC.
