Twenty-seven persons have been arrested and arraigned before the Juaboso Magistrate Court for various sanitation offences during a joint anti-flood inspection exercise led by the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Juaboso, Alexander Adu Quist.

The inspection, conducted in collaboration with the security services, focused on recently desilted streams and previously choked gutters across the district. The exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by the Juaboso District Assembly to prevent flooding during the rainy season.

According to the DCE, the assembly recently undertook extensive desilting works to improve the free flow of water through streams and drainage systems and reduce the risk of flooding.

Speaking after the inspection, Mr. Adu Quist said the arrests were made to enforce sanitation regulations and serve as a deterrent to individuals whose actions undermine the assembly’s efforts to maintain a clean environment.

He stressed that all 27 suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

“The assembly has invested resources in desilting streams and gutters to prevent flooding. We will not allow the actions of a few individuals to jeopardize the safety and well-being of residents,” he said.

Mr. Adu Quist also urged residents to support the district’s sanitation campaign by properly disposing of waste, keeping drains free of refuse, and complying with environmental regulations.

The assembly says it will continue monitoring drainage systems and enforcing sanitation laws to safeguard lives and property during the rainy season.
