The Black Stars played a goalless draw against the Three Lions in the second game of Group L at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Ghanaians led by Jordan Ayew frustrated a Harry Kane-led England side as the two nations with a long history of cordial relationship failed to break the deadlock.
The result sends the two four points apiece as they get into pole position of qualifying to the next round of the tournament.
It all began as Coach Carlos Queiroz made two changes to his starting line-up, bringing in Spain-based duo Iñaki Williams and Thomas Teye Partey, who couldn’t travel with the team to Toronto due to visa challenges.
Thomas Tuchel, on the other hand, named a strong squad with the hope of securing the much-needed win to book a place in the next stage of the competition.
But it became difficult in the early moments as England struggled to break the Ghanaian defence despite using the flanks through Noni Madueke and Anthony Gordon.
Djed Spence also joined in that premeditated attacking play from wings.
It was a rather uneventful first half with Declan Rice receiving a Yellow Card for a late challenge as no single shot was played. England, however, dominated possession 80-20.
Rice, however, emerged from the break to take all the set pieces that came England’s way.
One of them resulted in the ball hitting the cross bar with Kane failing to score from the rebound.
Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was called to react on a number of occasions, one of which was saving substitute Bukayo Saka’s curler.
The Ghanaian defence stayed composed to the end as the spoils were shared.
While Ghana take on Croatia next, England will play Panama.
Both matches are billed for Saturday, June 27.
