Three (3) people have died with 11 others injured following a head-on collision on the Ajumako–Kokoben stretch in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central region.
The crash occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, involving a private Toyota Isuzu pick‑up with registration number GE 1361‑25 and a commercial Toyota Voxy registered as CN 478‑26.
The male driver of the pick‑up and two female passengers of the Voxy were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies have been taken to a nearby morgue pending identification and further investigations.
Meanwhile, preliminary investigations carried by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) indicate that the Voxy, allegedly travelling at high speed, attempted to overtake another vehicle while visibility was poor on the road.
The GNFS says a thick cloud of dust from ongoing road construction on the Asikuma–Ajumanko stretch reportedly reduced sight lines, where the Voxy failed to see the oncoming Isuzu pick‑up, resulting in a violent head‑on collision.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged with several occupants becoming trapped.
The Breman Asikuma District Commander of the GNFS, DOIII Christian Davidson, said the GNFS teams received a distress call at about 4:00 p.m. and used specialized equipment to extricate four people trapped in one of the vehicles.
He added that seven other victims were already rescued from the wreckage by passersby and good samaritans before emergency responders arrived.
The injured were handed over to the Ghana National Ambulance Service and other medical teams and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has opened an inquiry to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
Commander Davidson urged motorists to drive cautiously, avoid dangerous overtaking, and reduce speed on dusty or low‑visibility roads to prevent similar tragedies.
