The Upper West Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of a 47-year-old man for incest and threat of death after he was found guilty of repeatedly sexually abusing his 17-year-old biological daughter in the Lawra municipality.
The convict, Kwame Ti-Zaaekuu, was sentenced by the Lawra Circuit Court to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for incest and 10 years’ imprisonment for threat of death. The two sentences will run concurrently.
According to a police press release issued on Sunday, July 26, 2026, and signed by the Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribare, investigations by the Lawra District Police established that the victim, whose name is withheld, a Junior High School student, had been sexually abused by her father over an extended period.
Police said the abuse was accompanied by repeated threats to kill the girl if she disclosed the incidents to anyone.
The case was successfully prosecuted before the Lawra Circuit Court, where the presiding judge, His Honour Stanley Adjei, on Friday, July 24, 2026, found the accused guilty on both counts after a full trial.
Beyond the custodial sentence, the court directed the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide counselling and psychosocial support to the survivor to aid her recovery.
The Upper West Regional Police Command commended the investigators and prosecutors whose efforts led to the successful conviction.
The Command also urged members of the public to report all forms of sexual and domestic abuse promptly to the police to ensure offenders are brought to justice and survivors receive the protection and support they need.
