A road traffic accident involving five vehicles has occurred on the Suhum–Kumasi Highway, triggering traffic disruption.

The severity of the crash, which occurred on August 3, has overwhelmed traffic management efforts, prompting the Eastern South Regional Police Command to announce an immediate diversion on the Accra–Kumasi highway.

The multi vehicle crash at the Birimso Bridge on the N6 Highway has completely blocked both carriageways, bringing traffic in both directions to a standstill.

Police have activated emergency diversion routes, directing Accra bound motorists through Kibi via Nsutam, while Kumasi bound traffic is being rerouted through Apedwa.

Motorists are being urged to cooperate with officers and use the designated diversion routes as emergency responders and recovery teams work to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow.

The Police and the Ghana National Fire Service are yet to confirm the number of casualties, injuries, or survivors as rescue and recovery operations continue.

The Fire Service confirm the five vehicles involved in the crash are two fuel tankers, an STC bus, a pickup truck, and a Kia Sorento.
