Founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has stated that his criticisms of the party are driven by a desire to save it, not to destroy it as some have suggested.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, who has been vocal about what he describes as the party’s departure from its core values, maintains speaking the truth is a duty and not an act of betrayal.
Speaking on the state of the NPP with JB, host of Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, in his house on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe explained that any serious association thrives on truth and accountability.
He said members must be prepared to call out wrongdoing regardless of whose feelings are hurt.
According to him, the individual who gets offended by the truth does not concern him, stressing that what matters is the survival of the association.
The veteran politician was emphatic that he cannot belong to an association that is full of lies and thievery and remain silent, especially when he knows that the stealing and dishonesty will eventually bring the entire group down.
He avers once he identifies any conduct that threatens the existence of the group, his conscience compels him to speak.
He admitted that his political party indeed has issues, and that he has consistently raised those concerns, but the current leadership has refused to understand his point of view.
The former football administrator stressed that contrary to claims in some quarters that he is bent on destroying the party, he is rather helping to save the NPP. “I don’t care because I’m not destroying the party. They are rather destroying the party,” he stated.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe further lamented that the principles that guided the party in its early years under very selfless leaders have been abandoned.
He recalled that many of the founding fathers served with dedication and died without amassing wealth, unlike what is seen among some current leaders who have acquired enormous wealth.
He argued that because what he says is true, it makes some people uncomfortable and they attempt to silence him, but will not be stopped by such opposition.
“No one can just bridle me within a second because what I’m saying is true and that is why they are concerned,” he added.
