The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region has engaged women in a sensitisation programme aimed at strengthening the rule of law and promoting the fight against corruption in Ghana.
The engagement, led by the District Director of the NCCE, Paul Kwame Ganvu, focused on equipping women with knowledge of their civic responsibilities and the importance of their participation in promoting accountable governance and the rule of law.
Mr Ganvu highlighted the critical role women can play in the fight against corruption, stressing that corruption undermines national development, weakens public institutions and limits opportunities for citizens.
He encouraged the women to actively participate in community and national affairs, report acts of corruption through appropriate channels and promote integrity within their homes and communities.
The NCCE District Director also underscored the importance of respect for the rule of law, explaining that democratic governance depends on citizens and public officials respecting the laws and institutions of the country.
He urged the participants to become advocates for transparency, accountability and responsible citizenship, particularly at the community level.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the women to discuss challenges associated with corruption and the enforcement of laws, while also sharing their experiences and concerns on issues affecting their communities.
Participants were encouraged to educate other women and community members on their civic rights and responsibilities and to contribute to efforts aimed at building a culture of accountability.
The programme forms part of broader civic education efforts by the NCCE to promote democratic values, good governance, human rights and responsible citizenship across communities in Ghana.
The NCCE believes that empowering women with civic knowledge and encouraging their active participation in governance can contribute significantly to strengthening Ghana’s democratic institutions and the fight against corruption.
