Workers of Ashfoam Ghana at Avenor have recounted how safety training received from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) helped them prevent the fire from spreading to their premises.

The workers, who were at work when the fire started on Thursday morning, October 1, 2026, spoke to Onua TV’s Afia Tagor at the scene of the inferno in the North Industrial Area.

One worker said the blaze was triggered by a gas cylinder explosion.

“A gas cylinder exploded so we started watering the wall. We moved out of the duraplast premises,” a worker with Ashfoam stated.

Another worker, who was left in shock by the intensity of the fire, said the incident should serve as a reminder for people to live righteously to make heaven after death.

“You need to look at this to serve God well. The thing is very serious because if you experience this and go to Hell after death, it’s too much,” he added.

The workers have expressed relief that the incident occurred during the day when many residents were out.

“We thank God this occurred at daytime because if it had happened at night, it would have been deadly. All the guys around have helped in controlling the fire,” another worker said.

Another worker has highlighted the importance of the periodic fire safety training organised by the GNFS, which he admitted they previously considered unnecessary.

“The fire service people have been coming here to train us and usually we think it isn’t necessary but I have seen the relevance of those trainings today else we wouldn’t have been able to help prevent the fire from entering into our yard,” he added in Twi.
