Government has failed to convince the aggrieved teacher unions to call off their ongoing strike.
At an emergency meeting held on October 2 to resolve the impasse, Government presented a new proposal to the unions.
The teachers say they have decided to consider the latest proposal and will communicate their response on Monday, October 5.
Meanwhile, the unions maintain that the strike is still in force and have directed their members to continue with the industrial action.
They have also asked teachers to individually mark this year’s World Teachers’ Day on Monday, October 5, 2026.
Addressing the media after the meeting, the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu appealed to the teachers to call off the strike in the interest of their students.
“For us, every opportunity lost by the learner affects the outcome of their learning, and that can affect their performance in examination. Their emotional and psychological impact is not something we want to see happen for long, and therefore we make an appeal to them,” he said.
