The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) newly elected National Communications Director, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has clarified that the tenure of former Acting National Chairman Dankwah Smith Butey has come to an end following the election and swearing-in of the party’s new national executives.
Speaking on GhanAkoma on Akoma FM, Miracles Aboagye said John Boadu is now the National Chairman of the NPP and therefore has assumed responsibility for the position.
His comments followed an earlier statement by Dankwah Smith Butey on Akoma FM, in which the former Acting Chairman maintained that he remained in office despite the election of the new national executives.
Butey had explained that he believed there were still about 14 days within which he could continue to act before the newly elected National Chairman was formally sworn into office.
However, responding to the issue on GhanAkoma, Miracles Aboagye disagreed with that position.
According to him, Butey’s era has come to an end, insisting that once the newly elected national executives were sworn into office, the authority of the previous acting leadership ceased.
“John Boadu is now the Chairman of the party,” Miracles Aboagye stated.
He added that the party would engage Butey and remind him that his role ended immediately after the new national executives were sworn in.
The NPP held its National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on October 3, 2026, where John Boadu was elected National Chairman with 2,888 votes. The newly elected executives were subsequently sworn into office.
Boadu, a former General Secretary of the party, now leads the new national executive team as the NPP begins preparations for the 2028 general elections.
