The leadership of the Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied reports of disagreements and confusion at a recent regional executive meeting over appointments of vice chairpersons.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the party’s Regional Communications Director, Dr Keskine Owusu Poku, said the meeting ended peacefully, with all officers present remaining until its conclusion.
The statement was issued in response to a media report titled “Ashanti NPP Executive Meeting Ends in Chaos Over Vice Chairperson Appointments.”
Dr Owusu Poku explained that all regional officers, except four who were absent, attended the meeting. The absent officers were the Regional Organiser, Regional Women Organiser, Regional Youth Organiser and Regional Deputy Nasara Organiser.
He also disputed claims that the First Vice Chairman, Amofa Jantuah, and the Regional Nasara Organiser, Razak Abubakar, left the party office before the meeting ended.
According to him, no officer left the party office while the meeting was still in session.
On the appointments discussed at the meeting, Dr Owusu Poku said the decisions were reached through consensus after deliberations among the regional officers.
He explained that the process involved proposing and discussing nominees, with concerns about their attitude, competence and credibility considered before decisions were made.
He added that where concerns arose, nominations could be deferred for further consideration, withdrawn or subjected to a vote, describing the process as part of the party’s internal democratic engagements.
He appealed to party members and the public to exercise caution when engaging with reports concerning the party’s regional leadership, insisting that the publication did not accurately reflect what transpired at the meeting.
He further expressed serious concern about what he described as a pattern of negative reports about the current regional leadership, alleging that some publications had subsequently been republished by other media outlets.
Despite the disagreement over the report, Dr Owusu Poku maintained that the regional leadership remained committed to working in the best interest of the party and resolving internal matters through mature discussions and democratic processes.
He urged party members to remain united and avoid actions that could undermine cohesion within the Ashanti Regional branch of the NPP.
