Inhabitants of some small towns within the Asuogyaman district of the Eastern region, –Adjina, Adumasa and Gyakiti –are being affected by poor road network which is taking a toll on economic activities in the area.

These places can boast of several tourism attraction sites and notable companies in Ghana, but has the poorest roads in that part of the region.

OnuaOnline’s, Kweku Antwi-Otoo, visited the place and observed the 24-kilometre road from Akosombo to the area is in a deplorable state.

Moment after Akosombo, one would witness a sharp difference in road that leads to Adjina, Adumasa, Gyakiti, among others.

Although bulldozers being used by the contractor for the construction of the road are on site, he has not been there for months.

Commuters have now had to use hours to move from Akosombo to Gyakiti which would have ordinarily taken just 30 minutes if the road were in good shape.

Queen mother of Gyakiti Ofram Asie, Nana Addobeah has been appealing for the speedy reconstruction of the road.

She said if the road were to be good, it would open up tourism and other opportunities in the area.

The Chief of Adumasa, Oyiakekyire Nana Ansah Kwao IV said it is sad that the place which can boast of Timber Company is in that state.

“The timber company, anytime they harvest, must look for a grader to make the road motorable before they can transport their timber to wherever they want. How can this help bring other investors in our part of the country?” the chief said in Twi.

The Asuogyaman District Chief Executive, Samuel Kwame Agyekum, admitted the road has been awarded but has been delayed due to funds.

He said most of the bridges on the road have been done but due to lack of funds, the project has delayed.

Mr. Agyekum promised that the road would be completed before President Akufo-Addo’s tenure as President of Ghana.
