The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the African Development Bank (AfDB) has pledged to support some of the initiatives by the Mahama administration.

The projects that the AfDB is going to support include the Big Push, 24-Hour Economy Policy, Feed Ghana and the 1-Million Coders intervention, he said.

On Thursday, November 6, Mr Ablakwa had a meeting with Eyerusalem Fasika, the Country Manager of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

He described it as “a very good” meeting.

“Glad to be informed that the AfDB has just approved a US$70million grant for youth empowerment initiatives targeted at the youth of the five regions in Northern Ghana,” he wrote on his Facebook page after the engagement.

He added that “I am also particularly delighted that the AfDB remains committed to the Lagos-Abidjan Road Network and the Eastern Corridor project which has portions going through my beloved constituency.”

The AfDB has invested some US$600million in active projects across Ghana covering multiple sectors not limited to infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, youth empowerment and social cohesion.

Ablakwa acknowledged the significant contribution of AfDB towards Ghana’s development efforts and underscored the importance of strengthening strategic partnerships to advance the country’s national priorities. He further reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to facilitate deeper engagement with AfDB to achieve shared development objectives.
Both sides expressed their commitment to sustaining the strong partnership between Ghana and AfDB to promote inclusive growth and improve livelihoods.
