Eight school children have drowned on their way from school at Faana-Bortianor, an island community near Weaboman in the Weija Gbawe municipality of the Greater Accra region.
The incident which occurred Wednesday afternoon, May 10, 2023 involved 11 passengers who were on board a canoe which capsised and left 8 drowned.
Explaining the incident on Maakye on Onua TV/FM Thursday, Weija Gbawe Municipal NADMO Director, Emmanuel Adu Boahene said three of those on board survived the accident whilst one of the drowned 8 is still missing.

He explains the Member of Parliament for Weija, Tina Naa Ayerley Mensah, together with the MCE and other authorities are at the scene in search of the body of the missing person.
Meanwhile, Mr. Adu Boahene says the three who survived the accident have been sent to the hospital and discharged.
OnuaOnline sources indicate the canoe owner is currently assisting the police with investigation.
Meanwhile, the deceased have been sent to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital mortuary in Accra whilst parents have been called on to help identity their wards.
