A last-minute header by Namibia’s Dean Hotto produced one of the shocking results so far at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

It ensured that the Brave Warriors beat the 2004 champions 1-0 at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo, La Cote d’Ivoire.

It was the opening game of Group E with the Carthage Eagles seeking to better the quarter-final performance at the last edition while the South Africans were seeking to better their all-time best record of the group stage.

The team had chosen Ghana as camping base ahead of the tournament, holding the Black Stars to a goalless draw in the final preparatory match.

The win is Namibia’s first in AFCON history

They managed to hold the former champions in Tuesday’s match until the final minutes when a searching cross was connected by Hotto inside the Tunisia penalty area.

The win sends the Warriors top of the group ahead of the Mali-South Africa game.

The next game, an all-South Africa affair, will be played on Sunday, January 21.
