The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahanta West, Mavis Kuukua Bissue, has outdoored an ambitious plan to help train a new human resource of doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientists and Ahanta language teachers for the development of the constituency.

Through the Ayindamaanle Education Trust Fund (AETF), Madam Bissue who is the first female MP for the constituency is seeking to bridge the financial gap that stands in the way of many students who are academically good yet lack the financial wherewithal to see through their education to the highest levels possible.

At a colourful event attended by the crème-de-la-crème of chiefs, education stakeholders, captains of industry and citizens of Ahanta, the MP outdoored the AETF, endowing it with an initial 100,000 Cedi capital.

“Too many dreams are cut short, not because of lack of ability, but because of lack of opportunity. Education is the great equaliser. It is the bridge that transforms poverty into prosperity and hopelessness into hope.”

“If we are to break the cycle of underdevelopment, we must invest deliberately in the education of our young people — particularly in fields that build capacity, protect justice, and save lives. Without education, the dreams of our children remain limited,” Mavis Bissue said.

The AETF is borne out of a clear and urgent mission — to expand access to quality education for indigenes of Ahanta by prioritising STEM education, and to deliver within six years at least 10 medical doctors and lawyers who are proud sons and daughters of Ahanta land.

The Fund will also provide learning materials and academic support to ensure that beneficiaries are fully equipped to excel.

“As the Member of Parliament, I am fully aware of the many challenges facing our constituency; roads that need construction, water systems that require improvement, electricity that must reach more homes, poor network coverage that affects communication, and many more.”

“These challenges are real, and I will continue to work tirelessly with the government, the municipal assembly, and other partners to address them,” she assured.

Board of Trustees for the Fund

To ensure that this vision is realised, an 11-member Board of Trustees has been appointed to steer the affairs of the Fund.

Obrempong Hima Dekyi XIV, Paramount Chief of the Upper Dixcove Traditional Area, who is also the Chairman for the Board of Trustees noted that this Fund could be a game-changer in the transformation of Ahanta, promising to lead the team of eminent trustees in raising funds that would support its sustainability and impact.

“Education transforms lives. This couldn’t have come at a better time, and we are all going to put in our best to make sure this brilliant initiative works,” he stressed.

At the fundraiser, key corporate bodies and personalities who attended the outdooring made significant contributions and donations to kickstart the activities of the Fund with several others making major pledges to support going forward.

The Fund would make public platforms through which all individuals seeking to support the fund can make their contributions.

“The success of the Ayindamaanle Education Trust Fund depends on unity and collective action. With togetherness, we can achieve great things when government, private partners, businesses, chiefs, community leaders, teachers, parents, the diaspora, the youth themselves and individuals join hands.”

“There is no limit to what we can accomplish… let us give generously to this Fund. Every cedi, every contribution, and every resource we mobilise will go directly into building the future of our children and the growth of our land,” Madam Bissue concluded.
