Leadership and management Professor at the Academic City University College, Enoch Opoku Antwi, has said Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen “reasoned wrongly” if he thought the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was going to be handed to him by Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Professor Opoku Antwi noted that the assertion that Alan Kyerematen was former President Kufuor’s favourite was a call to President Akufo-Addo to also establish people to take over from him after his rule.

He indicated that the Vice President fits perfectly into the legacy of Akufo-Addo among the 10 aspirants who expressed interest in the flag bearer position.

“If Alan believed in that promise at that time that if Nana Addo leaves, he will bequeath power to him, then he reasoned wrongly because that was a big error. As Nana Addo knew that Alan was Kufuor’s favourite and the established favourite at that time, he was also building an empire in the NPP, thinking about an establishment, somebody who would continue “his legacy” –what he is bequeathing to Ghanaians –and Bawumia fit that perfectly well,” he said on TV3’s the KeyPoints Saturday, September 30, 2023, hosted by Alfred Ocansey.

“If you look at Akufo-Addo’s vision and mission and psychological niche, Bawumia fits for him than Alan,” he indicated.

John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen resigned from the New Patriotic Party on September 25 to contest for the presidential elections as an independent candidate.

Forming the Movement for Change with the butterfly as its logo, Alan Kyerematen announced that certain happenings within the NPP is akin to the tenets embedded in the UP tradition through which they established the NPP, with him as a founding member.

Mr. Kyerematen’s resignation came after pulling out of the 2024 presidential primary which was scheduled for November 4.

He said the party has been hijacked by some few people who are running affairs in their favour. He also cited the skewing of the special delegates’ conference in one particular candidate’s favour, whereas his agents were also maltreated during the process. But he complains that perpetrators of the said maltreatment on his agents were not addressed by the party leadership without any sanctions on the culprits.
