Member of Parliament for South Dayi Rockson-Nelson Etsi Kwami Dafeamekpor has said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not taking lightly, the resignation of Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the legislator, the issues raised by the former Trade and Industry minister before parting ways with his party were similar to the ones he raised before resigning in 2008.

Speaking on the KeyPoints on TV3 Saturday, September 30, 2023, the lawmaker noted the NDC will analyse critically, the resignation, to know whether it would go against them or otherwise.

“The issues he raised were similar to those he raised in 2008. Anybody that thinks Alan’s resignation wouldn’t have an effect on the electoral fortunes of the NPP wouldn’t have followed the national elections well.

“We (NDC) are not taking Alan’s departure from the NPP lightly. We are studying his departure seriously. We’ll look at it and see whether it will affect us or inure to our benefit,” he told host, Alfred Ocansey.

Meanwhile, the South Dayi MP chastised the founder of the Movement for Change for saying the NDC have not provided any alternative for Ghana’s ailing economy.

He advised Alan Kyerematen to look through the 2020 manifesto of the NDC to abreast himself with the policies they provided, many of which are alternatives to the challenges currently facing the nation.

The lawyer also indicated that the 24-hour economy Alan Kyerematen is proposing is not feasible unless certain challenges currently bedevilling the state have been addressed.

Talking about reducing the excess borrowing and looking within for funding government budget, the MP said “what he (Alan Kyerematen) is saying is in our 2020 manifesto and we’ll be presenting similar for 2024.

John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen resigned from the New Patriotic Party on September 25 to contest for the presidential elections as an independent candidate.

Forming the Movement for Change with the butterfly as its logo, Alan Kyerematen announced that certain happenings within the NPP is akin to the tenets embedded in the UP tradition through which they established the NPP, with him as a founding member.

Mr. Kyerematen’s resignation came after pulling out of the 2024 presidential primary which was scheduled for November 4.

He said the party has been hijacked by some few people who are running affairs in their favour. He also cited the skewing of the special delegates’ conference in one particular candidate’s favour, whereas his agents were also maltreated during the process. But he complains that perpetrators of the said maltreatment on his agents were not addressed by the party leadership without any sanctions on the culprits.
