The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has supported over 3,000 students entering Senior High School this year with educational items including chop boxes, mattresses, buckets, books and pens, and trunks.
The support, under the MP’s Back-to-School project, saw each beneficiary receive items estimated at GHC2,060. All the students needed to receive the package was their admission letters.
According to the lawmaker and businesswoman, beneficiaries were not only from Amenfi Central but also from Amasaman, Prestea, Tarkwa, Asankrangwa (ASANCO), other parts of the Western, Western North, Ashanti, Greater Accra and Upper West Regions, and other areas.
She said the initiative was to ease the financial burden on parents and ensure students begin their SHS journey with dignity.
Chiefs and people of Amenfi Central have commended the MP for the gesture, describing it as unprecedented and timely.
One of the chiefs said the support had taken a huge load off parents and given their children hope to start school, adding that it demonstrated true leadership and commitment to education in the constituency.
