The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central Constituency in the Western Region, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has advised politicians to be mindful of their actions against their opponents.
The MP said, “Politics should not make us [people with opposing views] enemies since elections will come and go.”
Madam Gyan Cudjoe, who is also an entrepreneur, was sharing her views on the politics of insults in the country in an interview on September 7.
She said, “Let us always remember that we all go into elections to contest, and political positions can change at any time.”
The MP said, “When you take someone to court because of an election, remember that a time may come when you too will need to go to court over an election.”
“When you fight someone today, tomorrow you may need that same person’s support. When you do wrong to someone, remember that circumstances can change, and the person you hurt today may be the very person you need tomorrow,” the MP added.
Madam Gyan Cudjoe cautioned that “Therefore, let us be mindful, humble and watchful of our attitudes and actions. Politics should not make us enemies.”
“We can disagree, compete and still respect one another. Let us welcome everyone on board and treat everyone with fairness and respect, because we can all contest elections at any time, and nobody knows what tomorrow will bring.”
She explained that “Today may be your turn; tomorrow may be someone else’s turn. Let us play the game with wisdom, maturity and respect.”
