Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, a Political Scientist at the University of Ghana, Legon, has advised politicians to connect with the people in order to address their challenges.

By connecting with the people, the Doctor of Political Science says politicians would be able to address their concerns by getting first hand information from them.

He was speaking on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) campaign team that was unveiled ahead of the 2024 general elections Monday, February 19, 2024.

Touching on how the team can lead a formidable campaign to win the heart of Ghanaians, he advised them to present a working strategy and a message that will address the “lingering challenges within the political system.”

He told Alfred Ocansey on Ghana Tonight on TV3 Monday, February 19, 2024, that, “they need to be able to convince Ghanaians that, the economic situation they find themselves will be over in no time. Issue of employment, should be packaged and sent to people for them to convince them. The issue of growth of the economy.”

He established the need for the team to ensure their message resonates with the people in addressing their daily challenges.

According to Dr. Asah-Asante, ‘’if you look at the fact that this country, one of the factors that influence voter choices, and of course it’s number one, is the economy. Then there’s a daunting task from them.”

He indicated that the team also needs both human and material resources to function effectively, as well as a strategy which is made up of a manifesto and a message.

The Political Scientist said the manifesto of the team should be the identified problems of the people that have been put together to form a message and channeled back to the people.

Aside from addressing the issues presented by the people, Dr. Asah-Asante also hinted on the relevance of infrastructural development in meeting the needs of the citizens.

He also counseled that the government works enough to ensure their performance speak for them before the December 7 exercise.

He clarified that the governance indicators that have an impact on political outcomes will be highlighted and discussed, along with the question of whether they actually have a solution.

He further spoke about the impact of work and health on the elections.
