The attitude of Asante Kotoko supporters towards the players on their recent performance has demoralised them, leading to their current position on the league log.

Head Coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, in a meeting with the media indicated that some of the players have revealed to him that the manner with which the fans react when they miss a chance on the field discourage them to put in their best.

“They had a meeting with me and they said coach, when we miss a chance in the course of the game, when we miss a chance, because of the reaction of the supporters we try to hide behind the opponents when new chances are building up because we get scared not knowing what will come. They were in my sitting room, telling me this. You see what our beloved supporters are doing to these young gentlemen?” He disclosed.

According to Dr. Ogum, the pressure from the fans as he has personally observed from the bench has done the playing body more harm than good.

“For me as a coach clearly when we start the game, I can see that we are ahead of them but because we are unable to take our chances early as the game unfolds and because these young guys cannot withstand the pressure from the fans, so sometimes mentally they go off, distorts our structure on the field of play and at the end goes to affect us and this is where I have an issue with the supporters.

“We are playing we are creating chances the goals are not coming, even the opponent scores and we are still creating chances and you’re hooting and booing at the players how do they equalise and how can they go up?” He quizzed, adding that “if indeed you’re a true supporter, and we see it elsewhere in Europe and other places.”

Asante Kotoko have won only two matches out of the 9 they’ve played this season, drawing 4 and losing 3. They are currently occupying the 14th position with 10 points.
