The Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has described as irresponsible, statements and tribal remarks made by some followers of Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen after the party’s special delegates’ conference.

He says some followers of Mr. Kyerematen have claimed that, delegates in the Ashanti region betrayed one of their own by voting for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking on Ghanakoma morning show with Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin on Akoma 87.9 FM in Kumasi, the Member of Parliament for Suame, said “Alan is not the only Asante man who contested and people should stop accusing delegates in the region of betraying Alan Kyerematen in the just ended National special delegates congress.”

According to him, such statements do not augur well for the unity of the party, adding that any of the presidential hopefuls who wins the race will require the support of other candidates in order to win the 2024 general elections.

He mentioned that, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Francis Adai-Nimoh, Dr Afriyie Akoto and others are all from the Ashanti region so people should not single out one person.

He pointed out that the supporters of a candidate alone cannot guarantee a win for the party in the 2024 general elections.

He said all the aspirants and their supporters are needed ahead of the 2024 general polls, adding that Mr. Kyerematen is a party man and no one can rule him out ahead of the presidential primary in November.

The Parliamentary Affairs minister therefore debunked media reports that NPP delegates in the Ashanti region betrayed Alan Kyerematen.

He said delegates in the region like to support good causes, and their voting and electoral behaviour reflected so in the just ended exercise.

“They don’t discriminate. They are loyal people and look at things objectively without consideration to tribal lines,” he noted.
