Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has told those calling for a timetable for electricity power load shedding to provide some themselves.

The Minister who is also the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South in the Ashanti region says although he admits there is dumsor, –the local name for erratic power supply –the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration has performed better in the energy sector compared to their predecessors.

“If you’re comparing four years four years, NPP administration, energy sector is 300 times better than John Mahama,” he told the media.

When asked if he was aware that Ghana is still experiencing dumsor, he responded that “nobody has said we haven’t but what I’m saying is that we are far better than John Mahama.”

For admitting that dumsor is still ongoing, journalists asked if that legitimizes calls from a section of the public for a timetable to be provided for people to plan their activities adequately.

Minority demands ‘dumsor’ timetable from government

“Ask those who want it to bring it. If there is, I haven’t seen any timetable so if they say bring a timetable, what do you mean? The ECG says there is no timetable coming, why do you want to bring a timetable? Why would somebody get up and wish evil or bad for the country? When it is not planned you can’t bring it. Were you in Ghana under John Mahama? Did you live in this country under John Mahama?” he said in response to the question on timetable.

“I promised you that we are going to work on it and it’s not a work that is a single event. It’s a process and we’ll continue to work on it for the energy sector to become better,” he added.

A section of Ghanaians have been experiencing power crisis for some time now due to what the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) says is faulty transformers across parts of the country.

People have asked government to provide timetable to enable them plan for their activities, it says it doesn’t want to since the situation is only a temporal challenge which is being fixed.

But the situation has persisted since the last quatre of 2023 making people worried over the situation.
