Chiefs, elders, and residents of Assin Manso in the Assin South District of the Central Region have staged a massive demonstration against the Acting President of Assin Apemanim Traditional Council, Nana Ohemeng Awere V.

Nana Awere who doubles as the Chief of Assin Nsuta’s actions have been described by the residents as a “manipulation of the process” to bury and install a new chief and queen.

According to the agitators, the dictatorial action of the Acting President has over the years created tension and instability in the paramountcy which has resulted in stifling peace and development in the area.

Addressing the press after the demonstration, the spokesperson for the Ansah Council –Kingmakers of the paramountcy –Omama Amankwa Appiah, says “the Acting President and his cohort have been trying to usurp the tradition and customary duties of the kingmakers of the paramountcy to hold the funeral of Omanhene Barimah Kwame Nkyi XII who died in 2016. This move, if not stopped will lead to total confusion, explosion, and instability.”

Assin Fosu-based Rich FM’s Obaapa Adwoa Benyiwaa Kwanimaa said Omama Appiah called on President Akufo-Addo and the Chieftaincy ministry to be much concerned about the impending chaos.

“Nana Addo has been here three times forcing the Ansah family to bury Barima Nkyi before we litigate over the Queen’s stool.

“And we know that if we do that we’ll lose that opportunity of having the queen.

“Everyone knows the Queen’s seat is at Ochiso so why has it been vacant for four years now?Why don’t we team up and get the queen first, so that Adonteng and Ansah can team up to bury Kwame Nkyi peacefully?,” he noted.

Also, the Chief of Assin Andoe, Nana Kwaku Atta Banafo III who doubles as the Adontenhene of the Apemanim Traditional Council called for calm and urged that the right thing be done to ensure peace and stability prevail.

“I’ll please with the Ansah people to exercise patience and hear what our leader would tell us so we know the next step to take. Nobody gave the Adonteng title to Andoe to demand it back from him because everyone came to meet us on this land. It’s not the Omanhene who gave it to me. Let’s bury our leader in a peaceful way devoid of any conflict,” he said.
