Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party, has assured Ghanaians that he has what it takes to transform the economy.
He says he has policy initiatives that will turn the fortunes of the country overnight.
According to Bawumia, the electric vehicles he wants to bring into the country will lessen transportation cost by a whooping 40 per cent, something he believes will ease the cost of production for businesses.
He says he has already procured 100 of those buses which will soon arrive to pilot the public transport system in Accra.
Speaking to constituents of Ledzokuku in the Greater Accra region Thursday, September 12, 2024, the Vice President and flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) also promised to reduce unemployment.
He said one of the major policies he will introduce in his time will be the ‘Buy Ghana First’ policy which will boost local production by motivating people to move into production since there will be ready market for their products.
In his explanation, Dr. Bawumia said the policy will be backed by a legislation to compel the government to first look within before considering external options whenever the State needs something.
“I have ordered about a 100 electric buses to come in and start in Accra so that you will see. And that will reduce public transport fares by 40%.
“The next thing is about creating jobs for the youth. That is very paramount to me so I have a policy I’ll be introducing, ‘Buy Ghana First’ policy. And I’m going to back it by law. So whatever the government wants to buy, it needs to check from Ghana first.
“It is only when it cannot be found in Ghana that government will look elsewhere,” he stated.
