Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo says there is nothing he and his players can do about the withdrawal of approval for Baba Yara Sports Stadium to host their matches but they just need to make the best out of it.
For him, playing in front of home fans would have been what they relish but they have to accept the “situation” of playing elsewhere.
“First of all, I think if it comes like this, and this how it looks like, then it’s really a pity,” the former Dortmund midfielder said on Thursday, September 12 when he was asked about the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
“Surely, we always want to play in front of our home crowd but at the end of the day, we have to do the best out of the situation and if we have to play somewhere else then it’s like that.”
CAF wrote to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola to find alternative venues for the Black Stars’ next home game.
It cited the nature of pitch at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as the main reason, offering to send in an international pitch consultant to help improve the venue and other stadiums to meet CAF/FIFA standards.
Asked about the issue on the sidelines of a workshop for top coaches on the continent, Otto Addo says he doesn’t want to expend his energy on thinking about it since it’s a CAF decision.
What he seeks to do, he stressed, is to make the best out of it.
”I don’t want to use my energy to think too much about that,” he said.
”It’s not in our hands and there’s nothing we can do about that.
”It’s a CAF decision and we have to do the best about it.”
