Flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has promised a golden age relationship between government and Faith-Based Organisations (FBOs).

He says the FBOs have contributed much to the nation’s development than many external development partners but do not get any support from the government as enjoyed by the external partners.

Listing amongst their deeds, the construction of schools, hospitals and others, the Vice President says it is proper these churches and Muslim organisations are granted some incentives to provide them with some relief on their projects.

Speaking at a Breakfast meeting with religious leaders as part of his campaign tour to the Eastern Region Monday, April 29, 2024, the presidential candidate of the NPP reiterated an assurance he gave on February 07 this year, that the relationship between government and these organisations is going to be rekindled for the betterment of the state.

“I want to tell the people of God in this room that I want us –government and the Faith-Based Organisations (FBOs), to have a very close relationship and I have said that if you look at the work that the FBOs –the churches –have done for Ghana, it is more than any of the works that our external development partners would do for Ghana. The schools, hospitals they have built but we always don’t treat our FBOs as development partners in development.

“I want to bring a whole new chapter in the relationship between our churches, Islamic and FBOs. I am going to build a golden age between Faith-Based Organisations and the government,” he promised.

He assured that the relationship is going to provide support from the government to the FBOs to foster their activities just as Ghana’s development partners are treated.

“And that golden age means we are going to give incentives to the faith-based organisations to help government. There are a lot of incentives that we give to our external development partners. They bring in things duty-free and so on but they don’t give much for us as faith-based organisations,” the Vice President stated.
