Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been chastised by the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, for absolving himself of the failures of the current administration.

In the chief’s palace, Mr. Adongo says it is not right for a person to absolve himself of a collective decision taken by the traditional council, something he says he expected the Vice President to know with his background from a royal family.

He has described the Vice President as a person without integrity, for betraying his government and still serving in it as a key member.

On Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, Thursday, March 21, 2024, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Finance Committee indicated that the Vice President ought to have resigned as a man of integrity for his driver’s mate comments.

“You’re not part of the government so what else are you doing there? Any man of principle would have resigned the day he became Akufo-Addo’s Judas,” he told host, Captain Smart.

He disclosed that “Bawumia is a prince and it is not accepted that he absolves himself of a decision taken by a council. There is something called collective responsibility which is when after a group takes a decision, you cannot opt out.”

The legislator further described the Vice President’s presidential ambition as a ploy to blackmail Ghanaians to clear up his own mess.

He alleged Dr. Bawumia is the brain behind all the nuisance taxes introduced by this government after the IMF rejected Ghana’s bailout the time the country lost its credibility on the Eurobond market.

“People hide their funds when they see Ken Ofori-Atta and Bawumia on the Eurobond market. They told them (creditors) that by 2020, Ghana was going to become one of the largest oil producing countries in the world. They said we were going to produce 500k barrels of oil a day. We are in 2024, how many barrels can we produce a day? That was a lie they told to get money from the whites,” the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Finance Committee alleged.

He continued that “with all his economic prowess, this man (Bawumia) took Ghana to the IMF and they (IMF) wondered why we spent lavishly despite lacking and Bawumia said we should develop a revenue mobilization strategy to get our own money which included the e-levy, betting tax, electricity vat and asked that his people come and approve it in Parliament so he can collect all these taxes.

“You’re blackmailing us to make you President to solve your own mess. If he says he knows nothing about it, it is unacceptable. When the e-levy came, he refused to speak about it,” he added.
