The national U-20 women’s team, the Black Princesses, came from a goal down to beat their Senegalese counterparts 5-1 in the second leg of the final qualifier for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The match was played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, January 21.

The Princesses had won the first leg, played last week in Thiès, Senegal, 2-0 and needed to avoid defeat in Sunday’s game to book a place at Colombia 2024.

But it was the visitors who showed more hunger as they drew first blood in the 3rd minute of play.

However, the goal may have provoked the Princesses as Mafia Nyame, Beline Nyarkoh, Tracy Twum, and Salamatu Abdulai scored a total of five goals to ease to the mundial.

The Princesses, therefore, qualified 7-1 on aggregate.

Ghana’s last campaign in the tournament, in Costa Rica, was disastrous as the girls failed to win a single match. They lost to USA, Japan and the Netherlands.

This year’s tournament will begin on Saturday, August 31 and end on Sunday, September 22.

Cameroon, Nigeria and Morocco are the other African qualifiers to participate in the tournament.
