The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a decision to postpone the 2024 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) to August.

The tournament, to be held in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, was originally scheduled to be held in February with the draw scheduled for Wednesday, January 15.

However, a press release from CAF on the eve of the draw, to be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Center, announced a postponement of the start of the tournament.

“Good progress has been made in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda with the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals and other infrastructure and facilities for the hosting of a successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024.

“However, the CAF Technical and Infrastructure experts some of whom have been based in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda have advised CAF that more time is required to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities, are at levels, necessary for hosting a successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024.”

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe expressed gratitude to the respective presidents of the three host nations for progress of work so far.

He expressed confidence that all the facilities will be ready by August, when the tournament kicks off.

The exact dates in August for the tournament to be held will be announced by CAF “in due course”.
