Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said President Akufo-Addo and his entire government are not doing Cecilia Dapaah any good with the manner with which he has indirectly influenced her investigations.

He says the President’s attitude towards the scandal that befell the former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources has had consequences on the investigations which will gravely affect the woman.

Speaking on the KeyPoints no TV3 Saturday, May 04, 2024, Sammy Gyamfi said it would have been better that the anti-graft institutions allowed to carry on with their work to clear the woman if she is innocent of the allegations being leveled against her, rather than attempting to conceal things on the matter.

“If she was able to account for that money, matter ends. Nobody can say that she’s a criminal. But if she is not able to account for that money, then it raises serious legal issues that are worth probing and even prosecuting, because that will bother on criminal offences and all that.

“Let’s conduct credible and transparent investigations. Right from the get-go, this government led by the President himself has acted in ways that show that they are not interested in an investigation at all.

“If they think that they are helping Madam Cecilia Dapaah in doing so, then they are mistaken, because they are actually worsening the case for Cecilia Dapaah. It is in the interest of Cecilia Dapaah that this matter is investigated in a credible and transparent way that engenders confidence in the process that she is able to make a case and justify the source of this money and why she was keeping that home,” Sammy Gyamfi, a private legal practitioner noted.

His comments come on the back of the President’s statement on the Cecilia Dapaah cash saga which he says potentially compromised investigations into the issue from the get go.

After her resignation as Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources following her missing cash scandal, President Akufo-Addo in the resignation acceptance letter disclosed that he was confident she was going to be exonerated.

“I am confident, like you, that, at the end of the day, your integrity, whilst in office, will be fully established. I wish you the very best in all your endeavours,” the President said in his letter.

The Attorney-General has also advised the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) against conducting investigation into the money laundering aspect of the scandal.

The matter was referred to the EOCO by the Office of the Special Prosecutor who said its mandate was limited with regards to investigating money laundering.
