The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has stated that no white paper will be issued on the report submitted by the Constitution Review Committee chaired by H. Kwesi Prempeh to President John Mahama.
He said, instead, an implementation committee will be established to execute the recommendations.
Mr Iddrisu said this during an interview with newsmen on the sidelines of a thanksgiving service held at the Jubilee House to Mark Constitution Day on January 6, 2026.
“Many of you are still at a loss about the constitutional review process. 2026 will be Governance Year Agenda for President Mahama. Beyond economic stability,
It’s important that you, the media, appreciates that the constitutional review process which was set up under the committee is not the same as the constitutional review established under Article 278 of the 1992 constitution by President J.E.M. Mills,” he said.
According to the Tamale Lawmaker, “currently, there is a team of crack lawyers who are reviewing the report that was submitted to Excellency John Mahama. After that scrutiny, it will be subjected, it will be subject to cabinet, party, political party and public engagement.
And as the President rightly announced yesterday, there will be a constitutional review implementation committee which will work through the process of entrenched and non-entrenched provisions. So those of you who expected that a white paper will be issued, you got it very, very wrong.”
He further explained that, “This constitutional review led by Prempeh and Co, was not established within the true meaning of Article 278 of the Constitution. So, no white paper will be issued in that respect. But what is acceptable will be declared and made known to the public.”
